The Suncoast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences
presented the 2000 SILVER CIRCLE AWARDS honoring the following six
outstanding television professionals on Sunday evening, May 7, 2000, adding
their names to the forty-nine distinguished recipients who have been
recognized in annual presentations since 1989.

DONALD
V. BROWNE
Don
Browne is President and General Manager of NBC6 WTVJ. He is
responsible for overseeing all daily operations of the station,
which is owned by the National Broadcasting Company (NBC).
Under his leadership, WTVJ has furthered its tradition of
excellence in journalism and service to the community. His
background includes a term as Executive Vice President of
NBC News in New York where he was involved in the creation
of the first successful news magazine on NBC, Dateline. From
1979 to 1989, he served NBC News as Miami Bureau Chief.

STEPHEN
P. FLANAGAN
Steve
Flanagan is Vice President/Engineering for the Post-Newsweek
Stations, which includes WPLG in Miami where he was VP/Chief
Engineer from 1989-1998. He also is Chairman of the MSTV Engineering
Committee who are involved with the most basic issues of Digital
Television. He has supervised every aspect of Post-Newsweek
Stations’ conversion to High Definition Digital Television.
He began his career at WSBK-TV in Boston while he was in college
working remote broadcasts of Bruins and Red Sox games and
other large remote television projects.

O’BRYON
Linda
O’Bryon is Senior Vice President, General Manager and
Executive Editor of the Nightly Business Report on PBS, television’s
#1 Daily Business News Program. She is considered one of America’s
most influential business news journalists. Her pioneering
work in the creation and development of the program has earned
her the distinction of being named one of the century’s
top 100 business news journalists. This year, she also has
been ranked as the nation’s most influential woman business
news executive by the TJFR Group, an industry publication.

BERNADETTE
PARDO
Bernadette
Pardo is Co-anchor and Reporter for Noticias 23, the local
newscast on WLTV, the Univision Station in Miami. She specializes
in political affairs. She has been a part of the WLTV News
Team since 1985. Her background includes work as Editorial
Director for WPLG, Producer in the Public Affairs Department,
WPLG, Producer/ Host at WPBS. She also worked as Deputy Press
Secretary and Speechwriter for Florida Governor Bob Graham
from 1982 to 1983. She has a Masters Degree from the Department
of Communications at Florida State University in Tallahassee.

IKE
SEAMANS
Ike
Seamans is Senior Correspondent for WTVJ News. He has been
a journalist for 36 years. In 1969, he began his career at
WTVJ becoming one of the first local reporters to appear regularly
on network news with stories from South Florida, the Caribbean,
Central and South America. In 1978, he joined NBC News reporting
from more than 65 countries, based in Miami, Rome, Tel Aviv
and Moscow. In 1994, NBC News transferred Ike back to WTVJ,
an owned and operated NBC station, where he is recognized
as one of the best investigative reporters in the country.

SUNSHINE
Al
Sunshine is the Consumer Reporter for WFOR CBS/4. He has been
reporting for CBS since 1988. He is known for his “Shame
On You” features which seek to expose businesses, agencies
and individuals defrauding or deceiving customers as well
as endangering the safety and welfare of the general public.
He has received numerous honors for his reporting, including
a recent Emmy Award for a “Shame On You” report
on illegal police parking. He is a graduate of the University
of Miami where he received the Outstanding Journalism Graduate
Sigma Delta Chi Award.
