TOMMY MUŅIZ RECEIVED THE SILVER CIRCLE IN SAN JUAN ON

| Tommy Muņiz received the Silver Circle award at a gala
banquet on Thursday evening, October 28, 2004 at the Banker's Club
in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The award was presented by Bob Behrens,
President, the Suncoast Chapter of the National Academy of
Television Arts and Sciences. Tommy is a Puerto Rican comedian,
dramatic actor, television station owner and producer. He was born
in Ponce in 1922. During World War II, he began his career bringing
vaudeville shows to several Armed Forces training camps in the
United States and the Caribbean. After the war, he produced and
acted in two of the best radio comedies of the era in Puerto Rico:
Las Familia Perez and Torito & Co. With the birth of television
in Puerto Rico in 1954 and for many subsequent years, seven of the
top ten shows in Puerto Rican television were shows from
Producciones Tommy Muņiz. In the 1970s, Tommy produced and acted in
a hugely successful comedy series named Los Garcia. Today, Tommy
produces special programs for public broadcast in Puerto Rico. The
Silver Circle presentation to Tommy Muņiz was produced for the
Academy by Victor Montilla, Vice President, Puerto Rico for the
Suncoast Chapter, who also is a distinguished producer in Puerto
Rican television. |
