SIX 2012 SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED

The Suncoast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences along with it’s Partners in Education WLTV Univision 23, WPLG Local 10, WSCV Telemundo 51, WSVN/7 and NBC6/WTVJ awarded scholarships to six South Florida college and university students.

Kelsey Cortez
Nova Southeastern University

Kelsey is a junior at Nova Southeastern University pursuing B.A. degrees in Communication and International Studies with a grade point average of 3.84. She also is a working freelance videographer and Final Cut Pro editor. Of Cuban/Spanish decent, she has grown up with an appreciation for cultural diversity. She wants to travel the world producing documentaries.“


Joanna Noel
Florida International University

Joanna is a sophomore studying Broadcast Journalism and International Relations at Florida International University with a grade point average of 3.3. She also works as a crew member and shift leader at the Frozen Yogurt Bar in Miami.  Joanna is proficient in Final Cut Pro, website design and is fluent in English and Creole. Her ambition is to be a news anchor.


James Pierre
Miami Dade College

James is a junior majoring in Radio & Television at Miami Dade College with a grade point average of 3.78. He is already an experienced documentary producer with two programs: “Haiti-another struggle” and “Haiti Cholera”. He has worked as Director/Editor on eleven music videos. He also is an experienced voice-over talent, fluent in English, Spanish and French. 


Sandra A. Solis
Miami Dade College

Sandra is a senior majoring in Radio & TV Broadcast Programming at Miami Dade College with a grade point average of 4.0. She was born in Lima, Peru and graduated from her high school as class valedictorian. She moved to New York City where she worked many jobs, including an unpaid internship with Nickelodeon. She is currently shooting a documentary on stand-up comedy.


Catherine Staszak
University of Miami

Catie is sophomore studying Broadcast Journalism/Sports Administration at the University of Miami with a grade point average of 4.0. She has been a competitive equestrian since age four, competing on a national level. Her interest in sports starts with her Dad who was a professional hockey player with the Detroit Redwings. She also is a web developer and photographer with her own company, C. Staszak Design.


Jael Teme
Miami Dade College

Jael is a sophomore at Miami Dade College studying Mass Communication and Journalism with a grade point average of 3.78. Originally from Argentina, she attended Universidad de la Empressa in Buenos Aires prior to moving to South Florida. Her ambition is to become a professional journalist. She plans to attend either FIU or the University of Miami starting next year to major in journalism.

The Suncoast Chapter Scholarship program is chaired by Angela Gonzalez Ramos who is Programming and Public Affairs Director at WLTV Univision 23 in Miami.
